Theo Howarth
Theo Howarth is a producer, sound engineer, artist and multi-instrumentalist from Hertfordshire, U.K. based at Highfield Studio for the past eight years and formerly signed to Island Records, Universal as solo artist ‘Alijaa’, he released his debut album ‘Call For You’ in late 2023 in collaboration with Italian Artist ‘J. Raise, Jr.’.
A classically trained cellist, keys & bass player and singer – he is highly skilled working with Ableton Live, Logic Pro, and Push 3, programming drums and operating a range of analogue studio equipment as well as ITB software and plug-ins.
With a sharp ear for detail, Theo takes care and precision in all areas of his work – from vocal sessions to multi-track drum sessions. His trained ear and harmonic knowledge allow him to work closely with vocalists—whether refining melody lines and phrasing, arranging harmonies, or drawing out nuanced performances in the studio. He is experienced in delivering commercial-quality music, audiobooks, voiceovers and podcasts. Theo has a unique approach and ability to help performers connect to their material and capture a strong sonic footprint in recordings and mixes.
Theo supports clients through complete project development, offering services including DSP distribution management, press kit creation, artistic direction and strategic planning, while managing time, budgets and expectations without compromising on quality.
Theo has mixed, engineered, produced and performed for clients such as Mick Jenkins, Georgie Sweet, Missing Scenes, Tom Braggins, Savri, Frank Nitt, Hiero, Steve Lyman, 40 Watt Sun, Jack In Water, Deborah Jordan, Kinga Hornik, parthenope, Penguin Books, Serenity Welfare and Lenny Rush.
Producing live shows and theatre productions touring across the U.K. Theo has also worked as front of house/mons, tech/stage/playback manager for touring acts. He is part of the broadcast team for KOKO London and has worked at events and venues such as Glastonbury Festival, Wireless Festival, Standon Calling, Smukfest (Denmark), Hamburg Pride, Village Underground and Ministry of Sound. Theo holds Dante Level 2 certification. Recent projects and artists Theo has worked with clients including Robert Glasper, Burna Boy, David Morales, Ragz Originale, Mad Morning and Uncle Funks’ Disco Inferno.
Co-founder of the nu-jazz band Vertaal, Theo mixed and produced Paradigm Shifting, their debut which was highly acclaimed by London critics. Named ‘one to watch’ by Jazz Refreshed, BBC Introducing and Amazing Radio, they were supported by BBC Radio, Jazz FM and Worldwide FM. Vertaal have performed multiple times at Ronnie Scott’s Club and Jazz Cafè and London venues as well as playing alongside the likes of Reuben James, Mark Guiliana, Richard Spaven and PBug.
DBS Certified, Theo offers teaching and workshops in performing, recording, engineering and production in Ableton Live, available both privately and through Highfield Studio on an enquiry basis. He also works as a Youth Music Producer for other services in the area.
